Is It Safe to Be Seen?

Every human being has an innate need to be seen.

Maybe your story is a bit like mine, and from the beginning of your life you had this desire to be seen, so along the way you did whatever you could to get that need filled. Maybe as you grew and became more aware, you started to equate being seen with being harmed. Maybe being seen started to be dangerous.

That creates so much confusion in a heart and mind…because you’re human and you NEED to be seen, but then being seen comes with harm. What’s a person to do??

That’s usually when performance comes in. That’s when you start to become exactly what the people around you want you to be. You are seen and it’s “safe”, but it’s actually further burying and shaming your true identity.

As you embrace the process of healing, you will start to have moments when you will be seen for who you actually are. It might take time…it will take time for you to even really know who you genuinely are…but it will happen in small bites and bursts.

And it will be scary. And it will be beautiful. Embracing the truth that you - the REAL you - is worthy of being seen is a big deal and it’s a messy process and it’s so so good.

As you heal and grow into this understanding, cling to that knowing that being seen is not a burden to others…it is your birthright as a human being, as a child of God. If there are people who continually choose to overlook you, to push away the genuine parts of you, or who don’t take the time to give you time…those might not be your inner circle people.

You’re worth more than the work that needs to be done. Your voice is worthy of being heard. Your story is worthy of being held with care. You deserve to be seen in a space that is safe, consistent, and REAL.

Cheers to continuing to heal, grow, and value yourself as you should.

Love you. 💛
