Oh trembling heart within my chest
Why is it you so often fear?
Come lay thy head upon His breast;
The Lord thy God is ever near.
He comes not with a judging sword
But with compassion to the weak.
Love deep and wide He can afford
To shower o'er those whose hearts are meek.
Is not the One who shows His pow'r
To calm the waves that crash the shoal,
Also the One in darkest hour
To calm the crashings in thy soul?
"Come closer, child, draw ever near,
I want to hold you close today."
Oh trembling heart so full of fear,
Why do you push this Love away?
And yet He stays, awaiting still,
Tho there be tears upon His face.
"Do you not know I ever will
Enfold you in this warm embrace?"
Oh sweetest Master, Savior, Friend,
How much I long to be with Thee!
But word and deed so oft offend
The One who hung on Calvary's tree.
And yet He comes and says once more,
"Do you think my love so small
That when you sin I close the door
Upon this Love, once and for all?"
"In fact I love you just as much
Even through the dirt and pain,
And long to heal you with My touch
MORE than if you had no stain."
Oh now I see this Love divine
Tho wretched sinner that I am.
I am His! And He is mine!
I ne'er can fall out of His plan.
His heart beats for me...can it be?
It's perfect Love! Yes, it is so!
Countless thoughts He thinks toward Me
And to His presence I e'er can go!
Thy gentle whispers in my soul
Have calm'd and still'd my trembling heart.
You say, "I wanted you to know,
Thy King, He loves thee as thou art."
