A Thriving Temple: Running Your Race with Endurance
Recently I ran into this gem of a Scripture hidden away in the book of Haggai. It moved me deeply considering the season I’ve been in, and I wanted to share it with all of you!
"Then the Lord sent this message through the prophet Haggai: 'Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins? This is what the Lord of Heaven's Armies says: Look at what's happening to you! You have planted much but harvest little. You eat but are not satisfied. You drink but are still thirsty. You put on clothes but cannot keep warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes! This is what the Lord of Heaven's Armies says: Look at what's happening to you! Now go up into the hills, bring down timber, and rebuild my house. Then I will take pleasure in it and be honored, says the Lord.'" Haggai 1:2-8, NLT
This passage is talking about how God's people had been neglecting the rebuilding of the literal temple of God. As New Testament believers, we are God's temple (1 Corinthians 6:19), and He feels the same way about the care of these bodily temples as he did about the temple he dwelt in in the Old Testament! Doesn't that blow your mind? But we live in this day of scurry here, hurry there, achieve achieve achieve – and we are more sick and tired than ever. This is, in part, a result of planting, building, and striving in our own strength instead of surrendering to God and tending to our temples, trusting that He will grace and enable us to do everything He's called us to do - but in HIS strength.
I could talk all day about the importance of rebuilding our temples, but let me just leave you with a few action points instead.
1. Take stock of your life and surrender anything that is superfluous. If your priorities are skewed, surrender them to Jesus and let Him realign you.
2. Make a plan to care for your temple. Start with inserting one or two things that bring you joy into your week. I started just by taking the time to put on make-up every day. As a mom, this was something I'd often neglect, but setting aside that time made me feel human and happy.
3. Address your physical health. Take one step a week toward treating your body better. Schedule a couple of 15-minute workouts. Replace your pasta with a salad. Don't stay up too late so you can get enough sleep.
Remember that when Jesus was asked which commandment was the most important, He responded with this:
“The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is One. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:28-30)
God wants us to be strong so we can live fully and love well. Do what you need to do to move forward with STRENGTH and STAMINA! Taking care of yourself is not selfish - it’s obedient, for you are caring for His temple, just as He’s commanded you to do. God has solutions for our hearts and our bodies!! I am just now getting to a place where I feel like I have the strength to live and love fully, to face challenges with grace and joy, to be fully present for my family, and to dream again! Here’s my testimony…
The point above about physical health has been a huge problem for me for many years. I wasn't eating badly, and I was getting exercise, but I was still unable to feel well. In fact, I struggled chronically with migraines, fatigue, anxiety, sleep problems, and more. I tried so many different diets and was taking NSAIDs almost daily just to manage the pain. I could not be the wife, mom, friend, and dreamer I wanted to be. On the weekends I had to sleep a lot just to try to catch up. I knew I needed to find a better solution. And then, a friend of mine introduced me to a line of gut-health supplements - and it has changed my life.
These incredible supplements have reset my system, and the results over the past few months have been amazing. I have way more energy, my mood has lifted, my anxiety has diminished, my headaches have decreased drastically, I’m sleeping well, and the biggest thing for me is I have no more brain fog. I am now in a season where I feel well enough to be present for my family and to start dreaming again!!
Who knew that addressing gut health would help to clear up so many problems?
I have a deep desire to give others the chance to thrive again. If you have been struggling with your health, it would be such a joy to talk with you and help get your body back on track.
With all my heart I want to see people set free to pursue the dreams God has placed in their hearts in health, strength, and hope. My gut-health supplementation business is one of the ways I get to help people holistically dream-chase – vibrant in body, soul, and spirit.
